Tangle
Like so many people in March 2020—climate change, California fires, and the virus convincing us we are vulnerable and connected—my anxiety was at a peak. I turned to nature for solace and found myself working furiously in the painting studio, seeking a deeper connection to my garden, painting materials, colors, and forms, body rhythms, wind rhythms, sound. I like to solve a problem on the canvas when the world seems unsolvable. Painting brings the deeper humility of knowing nothing, that mystery of the self disappearing to let materials guide me towards balance and integration.
